How to buy

Order directly from the team.

Online ordering is available directly through the team. Lalibela Honey is still developing its ecommerce checkout, so customers can confirm availability and arrange an order by WhatsApp or email.

Delivery can be arranged in Lalibela, Dessie, Kombolcha, and Addis Ababa. In Lalibela, products are also distributed through hotel receptions, and a city-centre shop is being arranged in a church-owned building.

Confirm the product, jar size, current price, and pickup or delivery details before paying.

The beginning

From the highlands to a shelf in Lalibela.

Getachew grew up around bees. His studies in nutrition later led him back to honey, this time with a practical question: how could Lalibela keep more of the value created between the hive and the finished product?

He founded Lalibela Honey to work with local beekeepers and develop the processing, packaging, and marketing of their harvest. In 2026, he described training in Kenya on beekeeping and hive-product processing, followed by work on propolis, beeswax, pollen, cosmetics, and other products.

“I grew up with bees.”

What they make

Honey first. Then the rest of the hive.

The official website shows a broad catalogue, but it should not be read as a live stock list. Ask the team what is ready before making a special trip.

Honey from northern Ethiopia

The public catalogue includes white honey, dark honey, stingless-bee honey, and honeycomb. The white honey is the clearest expression of the brand: pale, thick, and sourced from Lalibela and the surrounding highlands.

Other hive products

Bee pollen and several propolis preparations appear in the current range, alongside honey blended with other hive products. Availability changes, so ask what has been processed and packed before placing an order.

Drinks and body care

The catalogue also presents tej, birz, and small-batch cosmetic products made with hive ingredients. Getachew says the Lalibela workshop is developing this side of the business as skills and production capacity grow.

A note on health claims: some hive products are presented by the business for apitherapy. This guide does not assess or endorse therapeutic claims.

Getachew’s public biography describes training across nutrition, beekeeping, hive-product processing, and apitherapy. He also coordinates Peter Bachmann Foundation projects in Lalibela and chairs the board of the PBF Memorial Clinic.

His next ambition for Lalibela Honey is a demonstration, training, and marketing centre for nearby beekeepers. For now, the most concrete place to begin is the production and processing workshop in Lalibela and the growing direct-delivery network.
